Leak detection: AVERTIR

Leak detection: AVERTIR

"AVERTIR", permanent network leakage monitoring

The permanent network leakage monitoring system is made of acoustic loggers equipped with GSM/SMS transmission units. Most of the times, data (alarms) are sent on a daily basis. For a given district, this system is able to detect water leaks and determines their position with a precision of some 100 metres.
Successfully installed for the first time in 2006, this GSM-based permanent network leakage monitoring technique was deployed in 2007 in fifteen municipalities, including Orléans and Créteil.

Dijon (France), a pilot site for AVERTIR

Lyonnaise des Eaux first experience in deploying this new leak detection system on a large scale took place in Dijon – France. Since April 2006, the entire town’s water distribution network was equipped with 180 + acoustic loggers. Thanks to this system, the average leak detection time was reduced from several months to 3 days. The efficiency of Dijon water networks operated by Lyonnaise des Eaux was 81% before implementing the permanent network leakage monitoring system. The objective, established together with the municipality, is to increase the network efficiency to 85%. In 2006, water savings were approaching 1 million m3.
